Jim Dale - from bacon factory to Broadway

AN EXHIBITION LOOKING BACK ON THE CAREER OF A LOCAL BOY MADE GOOD!

Opening on July 21st 2007 at 11am.

The building houses displays of photographs, drawings, maps and memorabilia depicting Desborough' development from the Bronze Age to the present day.  There is also an exhibition based on Kettering Borough Council's Urban Design Framework consultation draft, "A New Heart for Desborough." This looks at what Desborough might be like in the future and invites local people to comment and make suggestions.

The displays include sections on schools, industries, churches, buildings, sport, inns.  A flavour of some of the displays is given in our linked pages from the Displays page.

Jim Dale (Jim Smith as he was known in his home town of Rothwell) was well known in the area for his appearances in talent shows and at the Desborough Carnival.  Discovered in a talent show, he went on to host TV's "Six Five Special,"  to appear in many "Carry On" films and produce and act in many Broadway shows.  He currently lives in New York.  He has generously provided many of the exhibits.
