Your wedding should be a happy and memorable event for you, your family and your friends. Choosing the right music can help set the mood for the day and help to make it memorable. We'd like to help you choose the right music for your big occasion.

Different parts of the service involve a choice:

bulletWhat music will the bride walk down the aisle to?
bulletWhat hymns will everyone sing during the service?
bulletWhat music will be played during the signing of the registers?
bulletWhat music will the two of you walk out to?

You also have a choice of traditional or modern - or a mixture of the two. We can advise on and provide both.

Entry of the bride The traditional Bridal March by Wagner remains a popular choice. Many people, however, dislike it because of the words they remember putting to it when they were children! There are alternatives, but bear in mind that the walk down the aisle takes only about 30 seconds even at a slow and steady pace. The entry music needs to set the right pace, signal to the congregation that the service has started and set the right tone for the rest of the ceremony.

Hymns There are some traditional choices - "Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us" and "The Lord's my shepherd" - for example - but there are thousands to choose from. You may have favourites. You may want to express something of the relationship between you, and/or of your own Christian commitment.

You should consider the congregation. Will many people know what you have chosen? If they do not, you may end up singing a lonely duet!

During the signing of the registers The choice here is almost limitless. Remember that you will be signing the register with many other people present. You may not hear or pay attention to what is being played. This is a time to consider the congregation who are sitting waiting for you to emerge. Of course, you may be able to re-live it on tape or video later.

There are many classical pieces for organ or piano that may be suitable. You may want a selection of hymns or gospel songs or popular songs that mean something special to you. You may want to express something of your own faith through the choice or you may want one that says something about the importance of love. If you have chosen a particular reading for the service, there may be a hymn that echoes its theme. Generally there is time for only two musical items.

Some couples like to have a tape or CD played at this time. If that is the case, we can play your choice through high quality speakers designed to enable everyone to hear.

Sometimes, couples have a friend or group of friends who are accomplished musicians or singers who can provide the music at this time. We can provide the amplification for them and/or the musical backing.

You may just want an instrumental version of your favourites played on the organ or piano.

As you leave together

Again, many couples choose the traditional Mendelsohn's Wedding March to leave by. It is loud, triumphant and designed for the occasion. There are alternatives and we are happy to advise and provide whatever you are happiest with.

Martin has a collection of thousands of hymns and gospel songs both in books and stored on computer. You don't even have to hum it, we can play it! Equally, given at least 5 weeks notice, we can find and produce any other music that you wish whether classical, traditional or popular. That gives us time to find the music, arrange it if necessary and practice it.  We have a database of over 10,000 pieces of music of virtually every style and we have access to tens of thousands more via online digital databanks to which we subscribe.

If you would like to discuss the possibilities further please contact Martin.
