We
visited our friends in Bievre in Belgium from Friday 4th to Monday 8th 2007.
Our visit included a trip to Dinant, the birth place of Alphonse Sax, the
inventor of the saxophone. After a river trip we visited a gallery
devoted to works of art based on the saxophone and a 'Festival des Saveurs
du Monde.' The latter involved tasting various products (including liquid)
from around the world.
Sunday as spent with our hosting families before an evening meal in the
magnificent 'Centre Culturel.' |
Bievre
has a population of about 1200 with its entire commune of nearby villages
comprising about 3000 altogether. In comparison, Desborough's
population is about 8500 without the nearby villages. Twinning members
were struck by the size and design of the Mairie and its magnificent grounds
with trees dedicated to 12 European nations alongside the community centre
with its two halls, two upstairs exhibition rooms and its adjoining theatre.
